Thanksgiving Letter
Dear Family Member/Responsible Party:
Greetings! It seems like the year has flown by and we are approaching the Holiday Season again. Here are a few things to remember during the Holiday season:
Thanksgiving:
We will be serving the traditional Thanksgiving meal to our residents on Thanksgiving Day at the lunch meal.
Decorations:
Please keep in mind that we must abide by the Division of Health and Human Service Regulation Life Safety Codes during the Holiday season. No electrical decorations are allowed. (You can use battery powered decorations and lights) We cannot put hangers over the residents’ doors for wreaths, as these can obstruct the seal around the door for smoke prevention in the case of a fire. Also, we must keep an eight-foot clearance in all hallways. The staff will be instructed on what can be used to decorate the hallways as we have provided cork strips to attach things to each hallway to prevent the use of tape, tacks and pushpins on the walls and doors. We would appreciate everyone’s help in keeping the building looking good for our residents.
Food:
Please remember to notify the charge nurse of any food items that you bring to your loved one. Many of our residents have dietary concerns that the nurses need to monitor. Also, all food items must be in sealed containers and marked with the resident’s name and date to comply with state and federal regulations. Also, please remember to clearly label any items or clothing that you bring in for your family members with their name.
Leave of Absence:
Many families will want to take their family members out over the holidays. We ask that you call ahead and let us know if you intend to take a resident out, the date, and the length of time you expect to keep them out of the facility. This will allow staff time to plan with medications and supplies and facilitate the arrangements when you arrive to pick them up. You can call the Nursing Unit Coordinator, at 828-253-4437, Extension 336 if you plan to take your loved one out. Feel free to leave a message as these will be checked often.
I hope that you all have a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving.
Sincerely,
Marsha McClure, LNHA, CNHA
